Abstract
Aim: To detect and quantify HSV in GCF of patients with chronic periodontitis using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR).
Materials and Method: GCF samples were collected from 40 patients with chronic periodontitis (study group) and 40 healthy individuals (control group). DNA extraction was done followed by PCR amplification using HSV-specific primers.
Results: HSV was detected in 65% of periodontitis patients compared to 25% in the control group. The viral load showed significant correlation with clinical pocket depth (r=0.67, p<0.01).
Conclusion: HSV detection in GCF using PCR can serve as a potential diagnostic marker for periodontal disease activity.
