Aim: To assess the knowledge, attitude and practice of post exposure prophylaxis among dental practitioners in Chennai.
Materials and Method: A cross sectional survey was conducted among 200 dental practitioners in Chennai using a structured questionnaire. The questionnaire covered aspects of awareness regarding PEP, source patient status, reporting protocols and completeness of follow-up.
Results: Only 45% of dental practitioners had adequate knowledge regarding PEP protocols. About 68% were aware of the need for immediate reporting after exposure. Only 32% had received formal training on PEP. The practice of documenting exposure incidents was found in only 38% of cases.
Conclusion: There is a significant gap in knowledge and practice of PEP among dental practitioners. Structured training programs are needed to improve compliance.
